ArtCenter Berlin’s 10 week H&S term is a full 12 unit academic program (or 12 week, 15 unit program for the Entertainment Design Track) in Berlin for the summer.
Artists, designers, and other creatives from all over Europe converge here, especially during the summer months to play, show – and most importantly, share their work. It’s the perfect backdrop to “be part of Berlin” for an ArtCenter academic summer.Students are enrolled in 4 distinct courses that immerse them in this city known for re-invention.
History and language classes provide context and critical background to the city while a course in contemporary issues identifies current social and political challenges in Berlin and Germany.
Finally, students choose their own topic area around an aspect of the city that resonates with them to create a 3 unit studio project, for a total of 4 classes and 12 units of credit.
For their 4th class, 6 unit studio project, Entertainment students looked into the future to develop a narrative based on the theme “Once Upon a Time in Berlin Anno 2459.” They explored Berlin’s past, documenting odd historical sites, observing the complex mosaic of Berlin’s communities – to propose a compelling story, characters and sets propelled into Berlin’s distant future.
